It has been a while since my last update. That's because I've been very busy with my studies and activities at the University of Dallas. Originally, I was taking 15 hours, as do most students, but then I auditioned and was awarded a role in the mainstage production of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors, which allows me credit for 3 more hours. So, fingers crossed, at the end of this semester, I'll have 18 more hours to my credit.
So, a brief rundown on my class schedule:
MWF 9:00-9:50 English - Literary Traditions 1 (nicknamed LitTrad by students). We're currently reading The Iliad, which is a challenging read, even with a fairly easy-reading translation.
MWF 10:00-10:50 Politics - Principles of American Politics. We've discussed the Declaration of Independence, and just started on the Articles of Confederation. Our main required text is the Federalist Papers.
MWF 12:00-12:50 General Studies - The Seven Arts of Language. This class is okay. So far, we've only covered the first art of language, namely grammar, which I know very well. We're also learning Latin prefixes, bases, and suffixes. And reading Beowulf.
TT 11:00-12:20 Theology - Understanding the Bible. I'm enjoying this class, even with the Roman Catholic bias. As might be expected, our only required text is the Bible.
TT 12:30-13:50 German - Advanced German Conversation and Composition. By far, my favorite class. We're memorizing a romantic poem by Eichmann and reading a play by Dürenmatt.
W 14:00-14:50 General Studies - The Seven Arts of Language / Mentoring. Part of the requirements for the Seven Arts class.
MTWTF 19:00-22:30 Rehearsals for Comedy of Errors.
We started off just fine with in-person instruction. Masks were required for all students in class. However, the Delta variant raised its ugly head. So an email went out late Tuesday, 1st September 2021 from the University president that we would pause in-person classes and go online through this Sunday, 12th September 2021. That has been a challenge. But I'm surviving it. And greatly looking forward to this coming Monday, when we're back on campus, hopefully to stay!
